What Are the Benefits of Chiropractic?

People always ask me: “what are the benefits of chiropractic?”  When people hear that I am a chiropractor they usually assume that I only help people with back pain.  We do help people with back pain, but what you probably don’t know is that is only a small percentage of the patients we see here at The Specific Chiropractic Center in Boulder.

So you are probably wondering, if we don’t see a lot of back pain, what kind of symptoms do we see in the office?  We help all kinds of people with many different symptoms. The most common symptoms we see are: vertigo, headaches, arm pain, neck pain, and overall fatigue.

How these problems start:

First off I want to be clear Chiropractors are NOT back pain doctors. Chiropractors are doctors of the nervous system.

Nervous system?

When I say nervous system what I mean is how your brain functions and modulates the entire body. Your brain is the master control center and if it is not functioning at 100% I guarantee you will have problems.

What happens to most people is they have a trauma.  This can be a car accident or a repetitive trauma, like sitting at a computer all day.  This causes a bio-mechanical (movement) problem in the spine. When you don’t have correct bio mechanics, this can disrupt the way the brain functions.  This is usually a slow progression. It can first start as a decreased range of motion or a little soreness. Over time symptoms can get worse and more intense.  If this problem is never addressed, the symptoms can get so bad that people can have a hard time functioning in life. This is usually when they walk into our office.

How we help people:

The first thing we do is listen to people.  I want to make sure that this office is the right place for them and that we can help.  Once we have established that they are a canatite for care we will do a full work up right away.

The most important test we perform in our office is called  computerized infrared thermography. This is our objective measurement to test your nervous system function.  If we find that there is nervous system dysfunction we will take very specific bio mechanical xrays to see where the problem is in the spine.

Our goal is to restore proper movement in the spine and then proper function in the brain.  Once your brain is working the way it is suppose to you body begins to heal.
