You’ve probably heard the saying “motion is lotion,” but what you may not realize is just how important movement truly is for your body. Don’t worry – moving is easy!

Exercise – even the simplest movement – builds strength and flexibility, relieves tension and improves how you feel. Have you experienced that sense of euphoria when you stretch after waking up? Your body is releasing endorphins! That amazing sensation occurs because your body was made to move.

Regular movement helps to:

  • Relieve aches and pains
  • Lesson risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Assist with weight management
  • Improve musculoskeletal health
  • Boost mental health.

There are a lot of reasons why we don’t move. Maybe your back’s sore from sitting behind a desk or because you’re on your feet all day. Perhaps your knees ache or your neck’s stiff. Movement might seem counterintuitive, but it’s one of the most effect ways to manage pain.

Movement promotes blood flow and circulation – and it’s easy!

  • If you work long days bound to a desk, avoid pain with proper posture: sit up straight with both feet on the ground and your shoulders back.
  • Set a timer (for every 30 minutes to one hour) to remind you to get up and move throughout the day – take a walk, stretch!
  • Don’t bend at the waist if you need to pick something up – use your legs!
  • Go outside and take deep breaths of fresh air.

While these are simple ways to get moving, you may be experiencing other symptoms, too. In conjunction with regular exercise, chiropractic care can help you achieve relief and maintain proper function. Chiropractors are specially trained to work with musculoskeletal conditions and can identify the root cause of your symptoms.

Depending on your condition, treatment may include adjustments, trigger point therapy, massage, postural education and exercise prescription.

With regular adjustments, your body is allowed to heal itself through its own innate intelligence. Allowing the nervous system to send and receive proper signals to and from our body and mind makes it more efficient to do more. When your spine is properly aligned, you can more easily move and that in turn will help you stay more fit. Taking charge of your own health by getting up and moving is a great way to accelerate your progress.
