Anxiety disorders are very common in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year. Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet only 36.9% of those suffering receive treatment.

Many people come to our office with chronic health issues like vertigo, brain fog, headaches, and neck pain.  Along with those issues I see a huge percent of people check the box for anxiety on their health intake form. It is not usually a primary complaint, however, it is an issue that is affecting their health.  Why would that be?
What we have found is that when you are in what we call a “hypersympathetic dominant state”, your body has a hard time healing. That is just a fancy way of saying your fight or flight mode is working over time.

Imagine if you were being chased by a tiger.  How do you think your body would respond? Probably an elevated heart rate, very alert, and your brain only able to be thinking about one thing… ESCAPE!  Now, that is an appropriate response from your fight or flight system, and as soon as you escaped to safety your body would normalize.

The interesting thing about your brain is that it does not know the difference between being chased by a tiger or being really stressed out from everyday life.  The reason that is a problem for your health is that the stress from your job, kids, and bills don’t go away. It can be a constant firing of this fight or flight response.  Do you think your body is able to heal if you are constantly in this stressful response? The simple answer is no.

Now you may be wondering, how can we possibly help people with anxiety?  Do we help pay people’s bills? No, but we can help you manage your stress by making sure your brain functions properly.

Let me tell you a story:

Monica, a mother of two had a bad car accident 15 years ago.  She was suffering from severe neck and shoulder pain, eye pain, headaches, fatigue, and brain fog.  All of these issues were also causing her to have anxiety. She was worried that she would never have the energy to get off the couch and be the mom she wanted so badly to be.

Monica lives in Oslo, Norway.  She had tried everything that the Norwegian health care system had to offer.  She tried medication that left her drowsy and feeling like a zombie. She had MRI’s and CT scans that showed nothing of significance.

At this point, Monica started to lose hope and thought that maybe there was nothing that could be done.  That maybe this was the way her life was going to be. But she hadn’t lost all hope. She began looking at different procedures online.  This is when she came across our office. She read about people with similar issues that had gotten great results.

She decided that she didn’t care that she had to fly halfway across the world if it meant she could get back to being the mom she wanted to be.

Monica came into our office cautiously optimistic.  The first thing we did was listen to her. We let her know that is definitely the right place and that we can help her.  On the first day, we took a look at her brain function, performed some orthopedic tests and took some digital bio-mechanical x-rays.  Once we were able to see what the problem was we were able to present a specialized care plan to get her back to being her. Slowly her body started to heal and her symptoms became less and less.

Here is Monica telling her story in her own words

Does this story resonate with you?  Does it sound familiar? Can you imagine if Monica never made the decision to come into our office for help?  She may still be suffering from severe neck and shoulder pain, eye pain, headaches, fatigue, and brain fog.
