Have you ever suffered from a painful draining condition and have sought treatment to then be told that it is “all in your head”? It can be frustrating and devastating to have a doctor tell you that there is nothing wrong with you even though you know something is very wrong with you. Every day I see people who have been told that their condition is all in their head. Fibromyalgia is the most common condition that I see where other Doctors have told the patient that there is no solution and that their symptoms may or may not be real.
Let’s first start with a description of Fibromyalgia.  Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by memory and mood issues, sleep, fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, depression, and sometimes digestive problems. There is no diagnostic test to confirm the diagnosis. What that means is Fibromyalgia is a diagnosis that is given when a patient has a certain amount of symptoms. Most people, but not all can remember a significant trauma (physical or emotional) before the onset of their symptoms. The exact cause of Fibromyalgia is unknown, but the latest research has discovered that it is a problem with the function of the central nervous system.
What is the central nervous system? That means your brain and your spinal cord. Did you know there is a part of your brain that controls all of your regulatory functions, including your perception of pain? This part of your brain is called your brain stem. I have found that many people with Fibromyalgia have a brain stem that is not functioning properly.   And most people have never had the function of their nervous system tested. Here are some clues that you have a problem with your nervous system:

  1. Have you ever had trauma (especially head trauma)?
  2. Have you ever been under an extreme amount of stress?
  3. Do you have health problems that have slowly gotten worse over time?
  4. Is your memory or problem solving ability feel foggy or slow?
  5. Do you feel anxious for no apparent reason?
  6. Do you have a difficult time falling asleep or staying asleep?

If you answered yes to one or more of these questions you might have a problem with your nervous system. If you are suffering with Fibromyalgia and don’t know how to get help I would strongly suggest that you have your nervous system checked.
So is Fibromyalgia all in your head?…. YES, but not the way other doctors have told you. The problem is the way your central nervous system functions. I’m here to tell you that there is HOPE. You do not have to take pain medication that make you feel like a zombie the rest of your life. Take back your health. Take back your life!
