Can chiropractic help low back pain?

If you’ve been wondering, “can chiropractic adjustments help my low back pain” I’m here to tell you that the answer is almost always YES. My name is Dr. Colby and I’m a chiropractor in Boulder, Colorado at Atlas Chiropractic of Boulder.

I have multiple consultations a week with people/future patients that aren’t sure what steps to take when they’re experiencing low back pain. This pain often looks and feels different for everyone; some may have shooting pain when they bend forward at the waist, others may feel pain with lifting objects, and so on. The one thing these varying pains have in common is the way they respond to the chiropractic adjustment!

How can seeing a chiropractor help low back pain?

So, how exactly can chiropractic help low back pain? When someone comes in with low back pain there are a number of steps we take when beginning care. First, we take a full history on what happened and go over all pertinent health history. Then, we do a thorough assessment of the pain by measuring range of motion and looking at some specialized orthopedic tests. This tells us about what exactly is going on in the body and how we should approach care. Finally, we palpate (which is a fancy word for feel) to see what areas need to be adjusted.

What does a chiropractic visit for low back pain look like?

After we finish the exam portion, we will adjust based on our findings and how we determine your nervous system will react. We will also do some muscle work to help relax affected muscles in the area. As we go through care we will also give you exercises at home to help you feel better faster and give you tools to thrive on your own.

How long does it take for low back pain to go away?

We typically see reductions in low back pain within the first few weeks of care, but results often depend on how long you’ve had the pain and how well you are able to stick to the treatment plan created by your chiropractor. If you’ve been experiencing low back pain for quite a while then it could take a little longer for us to see improvements, but it is incredibly rare that we don’t. If your low back pain is newer or if this is the first time you’re having low back pain then chances are we will see improvements relatively quickly!

How do I know if I should see a chiropractor?

If you’re experiencing low back pain then chances are you should see a chiropractor. Once people begin care they usually have only one regret, and that is that they waited longer than they should have to come in. Chiropractic care is gentle, specific, and amazing for not only pain relief but overall wellness.
