At some point in our lives, we have all been around growing children. We have seen them take their first steps, or that moment when an infant wraps her hand around your finger. The rate that these children’s brains are developing is absolutely incredible.  Did you know that by the end of the first month, infants can recognize some sounds including their parents voice? Or that by the end of the third month they will recognize familiar objects and people at a distance. By their second birthday they are running, kicking a ball, creating small sentences, and most definitely jumping on furniture! However, there is an ever increasing amount of children suffering from behavioral and developmental issues like ADHD, Depression, and Anxiety. This begs the questions, “Why is this happening and what can be done to help?”
There has been a major shift in our environment over the last several decades that is having a dramatic, and often negative effect, on the normal brain and body development of our children. Think back to your childhood and what was considered normal. Typically, you spent hours outdoors running and playing daily. Video games were not in the home, cell phones did not infiltrate the kitchen table during meals.  Lifestyles over the past 40 years have changed dramatically. Not only that, there are an ever increasing amount of chemicals in our homes and food that appear to be making these issues worse.
Did You Know…: The brain communicates with the rest of the body over the Nerve System? That communication is based on the information the brain receives from the body below.  Without a constant surge of healthy sensory information coming into the brain from our 5 classical senses (sight, sound, smell, taste and touch) and more importantly our 2 special senses called proprioception (joint and muscle movement) along with vestibular input (our brains gyroscope) our brain goes into a state of deficiency and disorganization that negatively affect the rest of our health, our mood and our behavior.
When your child’s sensory input decreases their brain literally begins to create a state of movement and fidgeting in an attempt to increase the stimulation it is craving.
What all this comes down to is one fundamental question, “What can I do to help my child?”.

If you are someone who is looking to take that next step in helping your child get well, I am here to help you every step along the way.
Remember, your current state of health does NOT dictate your future. Just because a child is currently struggling does not mean they cannot get better!
